Anime Update #12

Voice actress Masako Nozawa has been awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Foundation for Promoting Sound Growth of Children and the Child Welfare Foundation in Japan. Nozawa, who is probably best known for her work as Goku in the ‘Dragon Ball’ series, has voiced characters in over 200 anime series, movies and computer games.

• Rock band SPYAIR and music group CHICO with Honeyworks have announced that they will be performing the opening and ending themes for ‘Gintama’ when the anime returns in July. The next set of episodes look set to the be the last ever for the show, as it wraps up the Silver Soul arc which is the 64th and final arc of the series. A new visual (above) was also released alongside the announcement.

• Leiji Matsumoto’s ‘Galaxy Express 999’ (Ginga Tetsudo 999) manga and anime franchise will be getting its first live-action series in June. The story follows a young orphan named Tetsurō as he travels with a mysterious woman named Maetel through the galaxy on a space train, in the hopes of obtaining a cybernetic body. The cast will include Chiaki Kuriyama, Ohshiro Maeda, Kaname Ouki, Toshiyuki Someya, and Jun Hashimoto.

• Takara Tomy have unveiled a new trailer for ‘Zoids Wild’, an upcoming anime series based on the popular Zoids model toy kits. The show, which begins airing in July, is the fifth anime entry into the franchise and will be released alongside a new set of models and a Nintendo Switch game.
