Anime Update #4

By   |  Mar 23, 2018

A second season of the anime adaptation of ONE’s ‘Mob Psycho 100’ manga has finally been green-lit. All of the original BONES animators and voice cast will reportedly be returning, and a special episode entitled ‘The World’s Greatest Psychic, Reigen Arataka’ aired earlier this week as a teaser (available on Crunchyroll).

• KOEI Tecmo’s ‘Attack on Titan 2’ video game received an international release this week. Based on the anime’s second season, the game features an expanded roster of playable characters, improved omni-directional mobility gear, enhanced Titan movements, and more in-depth role-playing elements. The game is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

• The official website for the anime adaptation of Satoshi Miyakawa’s ‘Space Battleship Tiramisu’ (Uchū Senkan Tiramisu) manga has announced that voice actor Kaito Ishikawa will sing both the opening and ending theme songs for the show. Ishikawa will perform as his character Subaru Ichinose and the songs are titled “Breakthrough” and “DURANDAL” (see the teaser above).

• Pokémon fan favourites Pikachu and Meowth teamed up with the Singapore Police Force recently for an ad campaign targeting crime and safety. The pair appeared on three posters that specifically deal with counterfeit goods, mobile phone use, and (perhaps controversially) reminding women to walk in well lit areas at night. The campaign launched on March 10 and is piggybacking on the popularity of the ‘Pokémon Go’ mobile game.

• The first trailer has been released for ‘Shikioriori’ (Flavor of Youth), the upcoming anthology project from Comix Wave Films and Haoliners. The film is made up three shorts – ‘Hidamari no Chousyoku’ (The Breakfast in Sunny Spot) by Chinese live-action film director Yi Zhenxing, ‘Chiisana Fashion Show’ (A Small Fashion Show) by Yoshitaka Takeuchi, and “Shanghai Love” by Li Haoling. The theme for all three of the stories are food, clothing, and shelter.

• A short teaser has emerged for the upcoming 20th ‘Dragon Ball’ animated movie. Scheduled for release in December 2018, the film will apparently detail the origins of the Saiyan’s super strength and is being scripted by franchise creator Akira Toriyama.
