Anyone tempted to go Blu-Ray?

Anyone tempted to go Blu-Ray?As prices for players has dropped, I was wondering if anyone had bitten the bullet and gone for blu-ray. I'm a bit disgusted that region coding is still hindering it, though I hear that most Hk releases are region free even though they show 'A' on the cover. Also, unlocking the regions of the sd-dvd and the blu-ray is in its infancy and most of us have lots of region 3 titles to contend with. Anyone decided to wait or jump in?
Re: Anyone tempted to go Blu-Ray?I've read that, since Sony won the format war, the price of Blu-Ray players have actually increased. I'm not sure if that's true, myself, because I haven't kept an eye on the market, but that's what I read.
I'm going to wait a long while. It's not so much the cost of the players that is prohibitive, it's the cost of the 1080 TVs. I must say that the upcoming Shaw Brothers Blu-Ray discs have got me pretty excited though.
Re: Anyone tempted to go Blu-Ray?Which Shaw Brothers blu-rays???
Re: Anyone tempted to go Blu-Ray?Life Gamble http://www.navarre.com/prodhome.aspx?ItemNumber=8023186
Opium and the Kung Fu Master http://www.navarre.com/prodhome.aspx?ItemNumber=8023190 Life Gamble is an OK film, a little uneven, but it does contain some good moments. Opium and the Kung Fu Master, on the other hand, is a fabulous film. It's brilliantly shot, has superb action, a gripping story and Ti Lung gives one of the best performances of his career.

Re: Anyone tempted to go Blu-Ray?Already gone bluray (well, I've got a PS3) and its worth it only if you've got a decent tv to play them on (mines rented - well worth it instead of forking out more money than my car is worth). On a standard def tv the discs don't show to well...
The titles are a little slim at the moment but there's more coming out and even a hint of some Shaw Brothers hi-def is enough to get me drooling. The prices of the players have dropped massively - £150 / £160 will give you a few options to choose from, and there's sometimes offers of free discs... I think after christmas they'll drop again in price...
Re: Anyone tempted to go Blu-Ray?Not tempted myself.
In regard to region unlocking being in it's infancy, one of the aims of BR was to prevent region unlocking and to make them uncopyable. This of course doesn't mean someone won't find a way, but it was high on the agenda. "How does it feel to taste the pain?"
Re: Anyone tempted to go Blu-Ray?I should recall the early days of dvd and how expensive films were. And of course some of the very unwise purchases you make because its a new format - £15 for 'Dragon From Shaolin'
Re: Anyone tempted to go Blu-Ray?You could always try to console yourself my reminding yourself that you also paid more for some vhs...

Re: Anyone tempted to go Blu-Ray?...and some people I know paid as much for some film called 'Die Harder' (and not the Bruce Willis film!)... I feel better already
