Re: What are you reading?Just finished Choke. Great little book. Starts of quite normal and I thought it would be quite dull but it turned out to be excellent. Well worth a read.
H.P. Lovecraft - Shadows of Death: Collection of shorts and one of his longer stories. ALl of them excellent. A really good horror writer who doesn't go for the out and out excesses of gore but slowly creates a world around you so you feel like part of the story. Dostoyevsky: Notes From The Underground: Another boring book from the an overrated writer. What doesn't kill you just really, really hurts you
Re: What are you reading?Red Dwarf: Backwards
Just finished reading the other three Dwarf books (first two are excellent but Naylor's solo outing is not quite as good) and am now working my way through Rob Grant's individual effort. So far its decent and basically presents a mystery in reverse as it plays out in the backwards universe. "...the root of Man's problems is memory. Without a past, every day would be a new beginning" - Ashes Of Time
Re: What are you reading?Just finished The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. About Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters' various adventures. The way it is written tends to veer from straight journalism to lsd influenced rantings. Not ever having done it myself I wouldn't know, but the style worked for me. They come across as just a bunch of selfish stoners by the end rather than an active, mind opening entity.

Re: What are you reading?I am currently reading 'The Watchmen' written by Alan Moore and drawn by Dave Gibbons. I'm 3 issues in and it's all excellent stuff so far. very dense and wordy. Choc-full of character. Really inspiring stuff.
Re: What are you reading?Awesome stuff. The ending is phenomenal.

Re: What are you reading?Bruce Lee: Fighting Spirit
Although the author comes across as being quite arrogant in the foreward, this is actually a very enjoyable account of the Little Dragon's life. There are some very interesting anecdotes from various friends and family that really help to round out what Bruce was like as a person and I think it shows a much more human side of him, flaws and all. Jackie Chan: My Life In Action I first read this about 8 years ago so I thought it would be fun to revisit. So far I'm still enjoying it even though I do wonder how he remembers things that happened to him when he was 5 or 6 in such vivid detail (hell, I don't remember what I was doing at that age!). Oh and a note to the publishers - this book is too freaking big and you make me look like a super geek when I'm reading it on the train to work! "...the root of Man's problems is memory. Without a past, every day would be a new beginning" - Ashes Of Time
Re: What are you reading?Dave Gormans Googlewhack Adventure Pretty funny book although not as funny as either Are You Dave Gorman or America Unchained as Dave Gorman attempts to get a chain of ten googlewhacks. It's a nice, simple easy read with lots of cheesy jokes as well as some gentle sentimentality, Recommended.
The Walking Dead I picked up the first collection of this as I'd heard some good stuff about it. It's okay rather than anything to be blown away by, the Romero type zombie background is always fun although the writing suffers from some of the poorer elements of the Romero films. Maybe it was intentional, but I doubt it. Hellboy Library Volume 2 The collections continue in these massive volumes. The short stories in Volume 2 are probably even better than the longer stories in Volume 1, including the classic 'Pancakes'. Currently my favourite book in the world ever. Residing in my 'next to read' pile: Snuff by Chuck Palahnuik, Muhammad Ali His Life and Times by Thomas Hauser, The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak and Paradise by Koji suzuki.
Re: What are you reading?
I remember reading that book in hospital, and strangely enough no one came near me. Now i know, they must have thought i was a 'super geek'. "How does it feel to taste the pain?"
Re: What are you reading?I'm in the middle of several books;
