Confessions

Postby ASaroch on Fri Mar 11, 2011 2:05 pm

some of you may have read my rather passionate review of 'Confessions', but I was just wondering who has got round to watching it or added it to their 'to watch' pile? On a side note, I was disgusted - but not surprised - that The Times gave it 3/5. The two reviews that appeared in their friday and sunday editions made me wonder what film they were actually watching.

I've got it on my rental list but it's not out here until April.

I've not read your review yet. I tend to catch up on other people's opinions after I've seen the film for myself where i can.

I think I neglected to mention it on the forum but I watched it on the same weekend I uploaded your review. Couldn't agree more really, I thought it was a thoroughly original and emotionally engrossing film that resonates in the mind long after it is over. Definitely worthy of five stars.

as you know, I have been banging the drum for this one as well - but I have noticed the reviews waver from ecstatic to "meh it's ok". It's not one for the casual observer, and there is something about it that makes it uniquely Japanese. I think the lack of someone for you to truely empathise with would hold a lot of people back.

But I think it is a brave movie (apparantly a adaptation of a novel), and actually would be one I can see myself revisiting occasionally.

The best thing of all is that this is the same guy that gave us Kamikaze Girls and Memories of Matsuko - the fact he can change tone so successfully makes me think that we really have a great talent on our hands.

Yup...seen it last month. A stylish, gripping revenge drama. Liked it 8-)

I watched it last year for the far east festival in Udine (italy) and i found it exciting with beautiful images (like Kamikaze girls and memories of Matsuko), great musics and a good cast. I found it the best of this festival(with "aftershock" and "man from nowhere"), i was positively surprised by the shift on genre of Nakashima Tetsuya, it is not so easy. I would give it a 4 star.
