A Moment of Romance

So, there's a Korean remake of this Andy Lau CLASSIC*.
What does everyone think? Unneccesary? Good idea?...

*(got a bit carried away with the capitals, I just like the flick)

I always quite liked Moment Of Romance, not my favourite Andy Lau flick but its quite moving in places and has a good soundtrack. Not sure it needs a remake but I suppose a reinterpretation could work if they just use the basic elements.

Look on the bright side though, at least its Korea doing it and not Hollywood

It was the first film that really made me respecting Andy Lau. It was so different from his usual billigerent numbskulls and is still one of his very best films. I'm not sure you can improve on it, so a remake is a bit needless.

I quite like the original too. Remakes are inevitable these days. As Phil says though, maybe we should be thankfull it is Korea and not Hollywood. Having said that there's no guarantee it will be any good.

It was the first film that really made me respecting Andy Lau.

Me too. I'm sure I saw him in a dozen triad flicks where he always died at the end and I was pretty bored of him - but then I saw A Moment of Romance and it made me rethink what I thought of him.

I think a Korean remake might be interesting but that it was probably a film of its time. I mean the plot is hardly original.

its quite moving in places and has a good soundtrack

The Korean version is now likely to have a soundtrack by Jay Chou - make of that what you will...

Jay Chou's pretty talented, and a good composer/musician (his secret OST was the best of last year by far) so it's no bad thing to me he's doing this. As for do we need a remake? Probably not, but i'll see it regardless to note if Korea fares any better than the US with this whole malarky.

Not hopeful tho, they bluggened My Wife Is 18 to death with shitty remake My Little Bride and My Wife is 18 isnt even a tough act to follow.

My Wife is 18 was absolutely dreadful so I shudder to think what My Little Bride was like!

I haven't heard anything about this since the news first came out in October 2008. It was meant to be directed by Kim Jeong-woo but he doesn't seem to have anything listed on his filmography in the last few years.
