Can really only comment on recent genre movies
'Turtles Run' is a mildly comic take on the Chaser, with less noir. 'Case Of Itaewon Homicide' is a police procedural about a true life murder case, grisly in parts, slow in others, it's a poor man's 'Memories Of Murder' but worth a look. Also 'Tazza' a very pretty on the eye but very LONG gambling movie that's actually a good watch, some nasty violence in parts.
'Sword With No Name' is a new swordplay film, it looks quite good.
films to watch is 52 aie!

I am slowly catching up with more recent Korean Movies, so most of my recommendations are from 2009.

The best film from ANY country I saw last year was Bong Joon-ho's "Mother". You chaps really should get around to reviewing it!

The best disaster movie was "Haeundae", although in Korean terms it was in a pool of one. Way better than it out to be, and distinctly Korean in execution.

I was expecting big things from "Thirst", but for some reason the DVD has sat on my shelf gathering dust. I adore Park's movies without exception, but for some reason I have avoided it.

I have a date with "Chaw" next week. And plan to see "Vegetarian" soon also

You really should watch "Thirst". I made every effort to keep my expectations low just in case it was hype over quality but I needn't have. I've put it straight back on to my to watch pile to see it again soon.

I've still got a blu-ray of Welcome To Dongmakgol on my shelf. It seems to be very highly rated so I'm building up my tear-duct supplies in order to watch it.
Incidentally, it's not very new but 'Mermaid Is My Mother' was a very touching, quite beautiful little film. a Korean Back To The Future if you like.

I've actually had 'Welcome To Dongmakgol' sitting on my shelf for a very long time now, but hopefully I'll get to it in the big DVD push ;)

Chaps - I am totally shocked. Welcome to Dongmakgol is probably one of the 10 finest Korean Movies ever.

I kinda promised myself I would never link to myself in here, but to save myself retyping:

Push it to the top of your to watch pile NOW!
