Does Thai cinema have much of an output? How does it compare to HK of the present or past? Excuse my vague questions, it's a market I know little about. Anything to get excited about apart from Tony Jaa?

Mike is the most qualified to answer this one...
Re: Does Thai cinema have much of an output?A year and a bit on I think I've seen enough to say 'meh'. Most Thai films seem to be horror movies
Ong Bak 1 and 2 I enjoyed as fun. Bangkok Dangerous, Beautiful Boxer and Tears Of The Black Tiger are all excellent offbeat action films. Warrior King is utter tripe from start to finish, so are the Bodyguard films and the worst gangster film ever, Hitman File. Chocolate, Fireball and Born To Fight have some good moments in a sea of clumsiness. I've seen Tony Jaa films on sale from pre-Ong Bak days but I gave them a miss. films to watch is 52 aie!

Re: Does Thai cinema have much of an output?BangKok Dangerous is awesome
Shutter is also good enjoyed Ong-bak - waiting to see number 2 and 3
Re: Does Thai cinema have much of an output?I think the problem with Thai cinema is that it only really became known for one genre and then failed to maintain a consistent output of those types of films. Stars like Tony Jaa, Dan Chupong or Jeeja Yanin are clearly very good at what they do, but they've only made like 4 or 5 films between them!

Re: Does Thai cinema have much of an output? The blog is probably Wisekwai which is a very good site. I check it regularly for news but would still say the interesting movies seem to be few and far between.
