Justified remakes

Justified remakesOk. Being that Hollywood is remaking just about every film under the sun, lets have some suggestions for films that could actually do with a make over. I was thinking Big Trouble In Little China as long as Kurt is in it and it still has the 'blow-myself- up -guy' played by Carter Wong.

Re: Justified remakesI wouldn't remake such an 80s great like BTILC. I can't think of a film they're remaking that I'm excited about: 'Footloose' and, much more worrying, 'The Warriors' are set to be messed up in the near future. Why can't they just re-release the orginals, fully restored, at the cinema like they've done with 'American Werewolf In London'?
Re: Justified remakesI think they'd be better off looking at movies that had potential but were made into disappointing films. If they keep stealing classics and turning them into second rate crap, it just soils the memories of the original.
And I didn't hear about 'The Warriors' remake but that saddens me greatly "...the root of Man's problems is memory. Without a past, every day would be a new beginning" - Ashes Of Time
Re: Justified remakesI do love Big Trouble but was discussing this topic with some friends of mine whilst drunk and thought it would be awesome to have more 'jaw dropping' fighting in it. I think my idea was really just the exact same film/ cast but with extra fighting in it. One of my friends suggested Terminator so I killed him.
A Warriors remake would be very shit. The original doesn't really have any faults and I think has a very large cult following anyway. I don't see that following would grow with a new version. Just to add: Some remakes that worked - The Thing, Invaders from Mars, 3:10 to yuma, The Blob, The Departed, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (Donald Sutherland version). Oooh and the new version of Bangkok dangerous.... Not. What doesn't kill you just really, really hurts you
Re: Justified remakesOn the subject of remakes that work, I think "The Fly" is great too.
"My style? You could call it the art of fighting without fighting" (") {-.-} (")
** My films to watch currently stands at 125**Keeps going up!!!!!! Too many films. Not enough time.
Re: Justified remakesSome remakes have worked, but these days nearly all remakes smell pretty awful. 'Invasion Of The Body Snatchers' was probably better than the original, but could imagine it being as good as that if they made it now? (well they kind of did with The Invasion)
Re: Justified remakesOne idea of a 're-imagining' I had would be Yojimbo but in a U.S. high school/college. I think Yojimbo's indifference and deep down good-heartedness, along with his cool demeanour could work well - the only thing is which slightly dishevelled, enigmatic and indifferent young actor is there who could play him?
Re: Justified remakesGood call on the Fly.
I think the Yojimbo problem is the main thing. There are great stories about but the casting choices are so at odds with the characters. What doesn't kill you just really, really hurts you
Re: Justified remakes
I seek not to know all the answers, but to understand the questions.
Check my site out http://www.easternfilmfans.co.uk Films to watch 68 its going up DOH!
Re: Justified remakesRemakes of classic '50's films do seem to work on the whole - probabl because the core idea is so strong. The Fly was a genius remake, although it did lack the brilliance of the final scene of the original.
The Western remaking of Asian movies is usually horrible. The Departed was unexpectedly fantastic - probably because it kept the core plot elements, transported the idea to America, and populated it with great actors and direction, and still had time to flesh out the world it was set in. The only other one I can think of defending right now is the US version of Ring - in some ways much better than the original Japanese version - again it kept the core idea, and the islands off Seattle were just the perfect location. The only downside was that they dropped one plotline which would have just given it that something extra (the Chris Cooper Child killer was going to be given the tape to watch). Of course if you want to see REALLY horrible remakes of classic films, try out some Bollywood...
