Rom-Com

Postby TheBaron on Wed Oct 29, 2008 2:08 am

I just watched 'Miss Gold Digger'. It has elements that are good (Han Ye Seul) and I was entertained for a fair bit of the duration, but at the end the wheels just fell off this movie. It was the filmic equivelant of chewing gum. My belly said something tasty was coming, but in the end, nothing arrived. I felt unsatisfied.

Can anyone recommend a very good, and satisfying, Rom-Com?

Watch A Man Once a Superman Mike. Okay it's more com than rom (the romance is merely implied) and more drama than either of those, but it's the best Korean film ive seen in, well, ever.

Otherwise, stick to Ha Ji Won or Kim Ha Neul films perhaps.

Have you seen My Scary girl (My Sweet Yet Brutal Sweetheart)? Brilliant Rom/Com, one of the best Korean ones in years and it was low budget, shot on digital etc, but you'd never guess. Has real heart. Great actress and actor too.

Do you prefer your rom/com's without action? (may seem a silly question to those who havent seen much korean romance but I assure them it's relevant).

I watched 'A Man Once a Superman'. It was not frothy.
You made me cry.

We did warn you about her. I watched 'Threads' (the most disturbing film ever!) because she said it was a fun rom-com set among the happy working class in shiny 80s Sheffield.

That said, I'll definitely look out for 'A Man Once Superman' especially if the lantern-jawed, flint-headed, iron-faced Mike could be moved to tears by it.

To be fair, while I was watching 'A Man Once a Superman,' I did have my foot stuck in a bear trap.

I cried for about an hour after it. What did you think of Hwang Joeng Min's performance Mike? I think he might get one of the big awards this Korean awards season.

Did you know its a true story? Like the directors other film Marathon.

Yeah, I read that it was a true story.

I thought Hwang's perormance was fabulous, and it needed to be, because he carried that film. The man's charm levels are off the scale. I'm eager to check out some other films he's been in.

Glad you liked him because yes he does carry the whole thing.

Jun Ji... I mean Gianna was good too, but I liked that she didnt try to steal the show. Dont think she could have from under Hwang anyway.

Be prepared for more tears then haha. Stay away from you are my sunshine. it's amazing but it's a happy little film about aids. Sarcasm.

Have you seen 'Marathon' yet Mike? Not a rom-com, but a great film that needs to be seen.

By the way, where did you both get 'A Man Once a Superman' from as I can't find it at the usual places?
