this film is really good, it's less an action film and more a period thriller with a martial arts element. The pro democracy element is laughable coming from one of the most dodgy deomcracies on earth (sorry my political soul showing but the mainland turns my stomach, can you really seperate state from controlled culture?) but the cast make up for it, Very much an ensemble piece, even Donnie Yen turns in some actual acting.
I'd say it had much similarity with the Once Upon A Time In China movies but less grand, it has little in common with the Flying Dagger/Red Cliff type which has been the norm.
New decade, new feel. Worth getting excited about. Tony Jaa couldn't make this shit.
I'm no kung fu purist but this is an example of how martial arts should evolve. Fights plus film = braw.
films to watch is 52 aie!
