Things You've Learnt From Films...

NINJA THE PROTECTOR - Against all my better judgements, I decided to watch this and was actually educated to a few important things. Please add any nuggets of gold you've gleaned from Asian cinema: here's mine...

'Only a Ninja can kill a Ninja' - apparently this scientific fact is uncovered in the aforementioned film. Even nuclear weapons are useless if there isn't another ninja actually pushing the button.

Ninja Identity Cards - While this country continues to debate identity cards, 'Ninja: The Protector' reveals that ninjas carried them long before. Not very sophisticated though, one of the characters shows theirs and it just says 'NINJA' in big letters.

I think the main one I have learnt from most Shaw Bros films is: Never trust a man with big white/grey eyebrows... I'd have to say that this lesson has probably saved my life on countless occasions...

From all the Korean melodrama films I have been watching recently - bring an umbrella, and if you want to meet a hot girl, go to the Railway station. Just don't expect her to put out. ;) Oh and expect her to be somewhat unhinged.

The louder the cackle, the scarier the villain.

NINJA FILMS - Especially American Ninja 2, show just what a brave palette of colours Japan's top assassins were willing to wear. Long before it became fashionable for very confident men to wear pink shirts and cool cardigans, ninjas were seen in blue, yellow, green...
It's no surprise to see Gok Wan's name on the American Ninja 4 credits.

I've learnt that apart from the odd film, when Sammo Hung appears in the films made by other directors and he is not doing the action himself he is always way better than the material he gets given.

It does make me wonder about his choices from time to time.
