Mei Ah have announced the HK DVD release of '72 Martyrs' (AKA '72 Heroes') for the 18th January, 2012. Directed by Derek Chiu, the film revolves around the failed Huanghuagang Uprising in early 1911, which resulted in the death of 86 revolutionaries, 72 of whom were identified.
Synopsis
Artist Gao Jian-Fu (Liu Kai-Chi) and newspaperman Pang Da-Wei (Tse Kwan-Ho) head up the local chapter of revolutionaries, who are looking to get rid of Qing magistrate Li Zhun (Eric Tsang). While waiting for the go ahead from Sun Yat-Sen's trusted general Ke Jiang (a.k.a. Huang Xing), Gao and Pang meet frequently to discuss their plans, and are soon joined by Luo Zhong-Huo (Zhao Bingrui), freshly arrived from Malaysia where he spent time with Dr. Sun himself. The group set about attempting to raise funds for the uprising but a plan to get involved with Jiang Mei-Xi (Irene Wan), the mistress of rich businessman Fang Hong-Zhi (Wang Jianchang), soon runs into trouble...
