Toei Animation have announced the release of a spin-off movie for the supernatural anime series 'Gegege No Kitaro'. Entitled 'Gegege No Kitaro: Japan Explodes!!', the film sees Kitaro encountering an extremely powerful enemy that could be responsible for the entire destruction of Japan.
Originally created in 1959 by manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, 'Gegege No Kitaro' centres around a half-human boy who is raised by spirits to be the ultimate protector of the human race. It has been adapted for the screen several times, with a new anime series being made every decade since 1968.
'Gegege No Kitaro: Japan Explodes!!' is due for release across Japan on the 20th December, 2008.
