Jay Chou Starring In 'Ci Ling'
Next up for singer-turned-actor Jay Chou is 'Ci Ling', a period action piece from Taiwanese production company Chang Hong. The film, which centres around time traveling lovers in Genghis Khan's Mongolia, will see Chou reunited with director Chu Yen-ping ('Kung Fu Dunk').
The announcement puts to rest the rumours that Chou was being lined up to star in 'Kung Fu Dunk 2'. Wu Dan, chairman of Chang Hong, said "We have already brought the combination of Kung Fu and Basketball to the top with 'Kung Fu Dunk,' and the worst thing for cinema is to be repetitive and stale, which is why we have decided to make a fresh, action packed adventure."
Released in February this year, 'Kung Fu Dunk' (available on DVD from YesAsia.com) scored the tenth biggest opening weekend of all time at the Chinese box office, $6.9 million, and grossed a total of $15.9 million.
'Ci Ling' is scheduled to start shooting in March, with an eye to a Chinese New Year release in 2010.
