Jia Hongsheng Dies In Apparent Suicide
Â
Chinese film actor Jia Hongsheng was found dead on Monday, after apparently jumping from an apartment building in Beijing. His body was discovered on the trunk of a car at the Anyuan Beili Community in Chaoyang District at around 6:00pm. Police later roped off the site and an investigation is underway.
Jia Hongsheng began his acting career in the late 1980s, and soon gained fame from appearing in films such as 'The Case of the Silver Snake' and 'A Woman from North Shaanxi'. While rehearsing for a stageplay in the fall of 1992, he first became exposed to marijuana and eventually became addicted, while also experimenting occasionally with heroin. In 1995, after filming 'Weekend Lovers', Jia decided to quit acting completely and began living off his younger sister Wang Tong. After two successful years in rehab, he later returned to the screen and even went on to chronicle his battle with drugs in the 2001 biopic 'Quitting'.
Our thoughts go out to Jia's family and friends at this difficult time.
