Takeshi Kitano Plans 'Outrage' Sequel

Japanese actor/director Takeshi Kitano has announced plans for a sequel to his recent crime drama 'Outrage', which competed for the Palme d’Or in Cannes this May. The project will mark the first time that Kitano has made a sequel to one of his films throughout his entire 22-year directing career.

'Outrage', which was Kitano's first yakuza flick in almost a decade, didn't exactly earn rave reviews at Cannes, but it fared considerably better on home turf. The film earned approximately $8.9m (Y750m) on 6 million admissions, making it the director’s most successful effort since 2003’s 'Zatoichi' ($34m).

Kitano spoke highly of the cast of 'Outrage' but admits that he wasn't entirely satisfied with the finished product, “Outrage was an entertaining movie with a great cast, but for me it only just made the grade. I’d give it a sixty percent. I want the sequel to be even more entertaining, more accomplished.”

With several of the main players killed off in the original, the sequel is looking to assemble a brand new cast of top notch talent. Currently going under the title of 'Outrage 2', Office Kitano is aiming to have the film ready for release by fall next year.
