Tsui Hark Casts Li Yuchun And Mavis Fan

Mainland singer Li Yuchun, or Chris Li, and Taiwan singer Mavis Fan have joined the cast of Tsui Hark's 'The Flying Swords Of Dragon Gate'. Li will reportedly be playing a young kung fu master born into a bandit family, while the seldom seen Fan has been given the role of a witch.

This will be Li's second feature following an impressive big-screen debut in 2009's 'Bodyguards And Assassins'. That performance not only helped her win nominations at the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards and the 30th Hundred Flowers Awards, but it was also the reason Hark decided to cast her.

Mavis Fan is rarely seen on the big screen as she prefers to focus on her music. Ironically, she was nicknamed "Little Witch" when she started her singing career in the 1990s, as at that time, most of her songs were sweet melodies catering to children and young teens. In recent years, she has tried to move away from this image and taken a turn towards rock songs.

'The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate' is expected to be released during the Christmas season in 2011.
