After their success in the last mission (as seen in 'My Lucky Stars'), the famous five are taking a well earned vacation. It is interrupted when they discover that a group of assassins (headed by Richard Norton) are on their way to kill a Hong Kong drug lord. A group of supercops (Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao and a young Andy Lau) are assigned to protect him but fail and the gang are called in to try and look after two witnesses who may be helpful to the case. When they stumble across the assassins it is every man for himself but they must be stopped at all costs.

If 'Winners and Sinners' is considered by most to be the funniest in the Lucky Stars series, then 'Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars' can definitely be labelled as the most action packed. Hung crafts out numerous memorable fight sequences that not only showcase the abilities of the three brothers, but also find time to introduce fresh talent in the form of Andy Lau, Richard Norton and Yasuaki Kurata. However, it is Biao that steals the spotlight here as during one scene in a warehouse he performs some of the finest kicking combinations committed to the Jade Screen. The comedy continues in the same vein as before, with several running gags involving the gangs' ineptitude with women which is fun if not slightly repetitive, but the timing and performances are always spot-on. It's also nice to see the return of John Shum, albeit in a slightly scaled down performance to his role in 'Winners And Sinners'.

As with the rest of the series, the comedy in 'Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars' may be the off-putting element but for this particular outing, there is probably more than enough action to overshadow it. For me personally though, the mix between the various genres is perfect and makes for a much more light hearted and enjoyable film all round. |
