Anime Update #24

By   |  Sep 29, 2019

• The ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ anime will be getting a sequel film entitled ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Train Arc’. Series director Haruo Sotozaki will return to helm the film, alongside original cast members Natsuki Hanae, Akari Kito, Hiro Shimono, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, and Satoshi Hino. For those yet to see the show, the story follows a young boy who chooses to become a slayer after his family is slaughtered and his sister begins turning into a demon.

• To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the ‘One Piece’ anime, an all-new special entitled ‘Romance Dawn’ will air on October 20, 2019. As many fans will have already guessed, this will be an adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s “prototype” manga for the franchise that first appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 1996. Oda originally drew ‘Romance Dawn’ as two separate stories, both of which featured a young pirate named Monkey D Luffy. However, in all other aspects they were very different from the ‘One Piece’ manga that eventually launched in 1997.

• The anime series based on Tasuku Karasuma’s ‘No Guns Life’ manga will begin airing on Japanese television on October 10, 2019. Directed by Naoyuki Itou, the story follows a former cyborg soldier with a gun for a head (yes, you read that right) who decides to scratch out a living as a Resolver. The voice cast includes Junichi Suwabe, Manami Numakura, Daiki Yamashita, Yoko Hikasa, and Yoji Ueda.

• A new Pokémon anime series will begin airing on TV Tokyo and its affiliates on November 17, 2019.  Simply titled ‘Pocket Monsters’, the series will follow the exploits of two main characters – Ash (aka Satoshi) and Gō. As with previous outings in the franchise, Ash is (still) looking to become a Pokémon master while new character Gō dreams of capturing every single Pokémon he can.

• The anime adaptation of Q-LiA’s quirky ‘Bananya’ manga is getting a second season, beginning October 1. Ingeniously titled ‘Bananya and the Curious Bunch’, the series is set on Bananya’s home planet and will detail his journey to Earth. Kyo Yatate is directing with Yuuki Kaji and Ayumu Murase returning to provide the voices.

• A feature film is currently in the works for the anime adaptation of Kenji Sonishi’s ‘Meow Meow Japanese History’ manga. Due for release in February 2020, the film will be directed by Tomohiro Kawamura and is expected to feature a number of new feline reinterpretations of famous Japanese historical figures. The current working title is ‘Meow Meow Japanese History the Movie: Ryōma’s Topsy-Turvy Time Travel!’.
