Anime Update #3

By   |  Mar 15, 2018

72-year-old Japanese comedian/TV host Tamori will provide all of the voices and sounds for Hayao Miyazaki‘s new short film ‘Boro the Caterpillar’ (Kemushi no Boro). The 14-minute film, which was completed in January, is scheduled to premier at the Doseiza (Saturn) Theater in the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo, on March 21.

• The first teaser has been released for the new anime adaptation of Keisuke Itagaki’s ‘Baki’ (New Grappler Baki: In Search of Our Strongest Hero) manga. As with previous incarnations, the story will focus on Baki’s struggles to become the strongest fighter in the world so that he can defeat his father. The series will run for 26 episodes and begins airing on Netflix Japan in summer, with an international release expected in the fall.

• The upcoming OVA (original video anime) for the ‘Re:Zero’ anime series will be getting a theatrical release in Japan. More information about the screenings is expected at AnimeJapan 2018, but for now we know that WHITE FOX will be returning to handle the animation and the voice cast includes Yusuke Kobayashi, Rie Takahashi, and Inori Minase. Funimation will also be releasing the ‘Re:Zero’ series on home video with an English dub this summer.

• The amusingly titled light novel series ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime’ (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) is to get its own television anime adaptation this October. Written by Fuse and drawn by Mitz Vah, the story revolves around an ordinary salaryman who is transported to an alternate world as a slime monster after a certain incident. The series will be directed by Yasuhito Kikuchi and you can check out the teaser video above.

• A new television anime based on Ikki Kajiwara and Tetsuya Chiba’s ‘Ashita no Joe’ manga will begin airing this April. Entitled ‘Megalobox’, the new interpretation of the story will follow a corrupt fighter who is convinced to enter the ring for different reasons. The voice cast includes Yoshimasa Hosoya, Hiroki Yasumoto, Hiroyuki Kinoshita, Michiyo Murase, and Nanako Mori.
