By Phil Mills | Oct 7, 2025
Shout! Studios are bringing the 1986 Hong Kong action crime action drama ‘A Better Tomorrow’ (英雄本色) and its two sequels to US Blu-ray and 4K UHD on November 18, 2025.
This legendary and highly influential saga, whose impact shaped cinema both in Hong Kong and Hollywood, brought filmmakers John Woo and Tsui Hark to new heights of fame, and launched star Chow Yun-Fat to superstardom. Featuring brand-new 4K scans and an arsenal of bonus features, all three ‘A Better Tomorrow’ epics are presented like never before.
A Better Tomorrow / 英雄本色 (1986)
Sung Tse-ho (Ti Lung), a Triad member, and his friend Mark Lee (Chow Yun-Fat) hide their counterfeiting business from Ho’s brother, Kit (Leslie Cheung), a police cadet. After a betrayal in Taiwan and a family tragedy, Ho aims to leave crime behind, but faces pressure from the ambitious Shing (Waise Lee). Caught between reconciling with Kit, who blames him for their father’s death, and resisting Shing’s schemes, Ho fights to protect his loved ones and redeem himself in a treacherous underworld.
A Better Tomorrow II / 英雄本色II (1987)
Ex-Triad member Sung Tse-ho (Ti Lung), offered parole to spy on his mentor Lung Sei’s (Dean Shek) suspected counterfeiting ring, joins his brother Kit, who’s undercover, to face betrayal and a ruthless subordinate. With an unexpected ally, they fight to protect their family and dismantle the criminal empire in a tense battle of loyalty and survival.
A Better Tomorrow III / 英雄本色III夕陽之歌 (1989)
In 1974 Saigon, Mark Lee (Chow Yun-Fat) aims to bring his uncle and cousin Michael (Tony Leung Ka-Fai) back to Hong Kong but gets entangled with gun runner Chow Ying-kit (Anita Mui). As tensions rise with Kit’s jealous ex-lover and a Vietnamese warlord, the cousins navigate betrayal and attraction, fighting to survive and escape the chaos of a collapsing city.
