Blu-ray release: ‘Hanging Garden’

Third Window Films are bringing the 2005 Japanese drama ‘Hanging Garden’ (空中庭園) to UK Blu-ray on May 26, 2025.

Directed by Toshiaki Toyoda, the film follows a supposedly happy family who are struggling to maintain an agreement to remain honest and open with each other. The cast includes Kyoko Koizumi, Anne Suzuki, Itsuji Itao, Masahiro Hirota, Jun Kunimura, and Eita Nagayama.

Synopsis: The Kyobashi family, who live in a new town on the outskirts of Tokyo, have a rule of “no secrets,” but in fact each member of the family has a secret. The daughter Mana skips school, the son Kou tends to stay at home, the father Takashi has a mistress, and the wife Eriko has a long-standing grudge against her mother. One day, Takashi’s mistress Mina comes to the Kyobashi family as Kou’s tutor, and the family’s secrets begin to come to light one after another.
