
Blu-ray release: ‘Shogun’s Samurai’

Eureka Entertainment are bringing the 1978 Japanese historical martial arts period movie ‘Shogun’s Samurai’ (柳生一族の陰謀) to UK Blu-ray on November 17, 2025.
Co-written and directed by Kinji Fukasaku, the film depicts a deadly rivalry between brothers for the shogunate after their father’s poisoning. The cast includes Kinnosuke Nakamura, Sonny Chiba, Hiroki Matsukata, Teruhiko Saigo, and Reiko Ohara.
Synopsis: During the Edo period, shogun Hidetada Tokugawa is killed, poisoned by an unknown assailant. In the aftermath of his death, a vicious power struggle breaks out between his two sons Tadanaga (Teruhiko Saigo) and Iemitsu (Hiroki Matsukata), who is suspected of having arranged his father’s murder. As the conflict between the two brothers intensifies and their father’s former allies are forced to choose sides, samurai Munenori Yagyu (Kinnosuke Yorozuya) and his own sons Jubei (Sonny Chiba) and Munefuyu (Kentaro Kudo) become embroiled in the conflict until it reaches its bitter end.
