Blu-ray release: ‘Stray Dog’

BFI are bringing the 1949 Japanese crime drama noir ‘Stray Dog’ (野良犬) to UK Blu-ray on January 20, 2025.
Co-written and directed by Akira Kurosawa, the film revolves around a rookie homicide detective who tries to track down his stolen Colt pistol. The cast includes Toshiro Mifune, Takashi Shimura, Keiko Awaji, Eiko Miyoshi, Noriko Honma, and Isao Kimura.
Synopsis: When rookie detective Murakami (Toshiro Mifune) has his pistol stolen from his pocket while on a bus, his frantic attempts to track down the thief lead him to an illegal weapons market in the Tokyo underworld. But the gun has already passed from the pickpocket to a young gangster, and Murakami’s gun is identified as the weapon in the shooting of a woman.
