Blu-ray release: ‘The Cat’

88 Films are bringing the 1992 Hong Kong sci-fi action horror movie ‘The Cat’ (衛斯理之老貓) to US and UK Blu-ray on August 25/26, 2025.

Directed by Lam Nai-Choi and based on the novel ‘Old Cat’ by Ni Kuang, the film follows a trio of extraterrestrials who team up with a novelist to fight a malevolent alien that can possess humans. The cast includes Gloria Yip, Waise Lee, Christine Ng, Lau Siu-Ming, Lawrence Lau, and Philip Kwok Chun-Fung.

Synopsis: Dr. Wesley (a.k.a. Wisely), whose expertise is in the realm of the supernatural, is tested when he hunts for a mysterious black cat that may be behind some unnatural happenings in Hong Kong. But what Wisely doesn’t know is that the cat is more than your average feline friend. The cat is actually on the run from an invading alien force that uses possession and scary gore tactics to get their way! It’s up to Wisley to discover the means of stopping the cat, and no amount of cheesy special effects-induced horror is going to stop him!
