Blu-ray release: ‘The Happiness of the Katakuris’

Discotek Media are bringing the 2001 Japanese musical horror-comedy ‘The Happiness of the Katakuris’ (カタクリ家の幸福) to US Blu-ray on November 25, 2025.

Loosely based on 1998’s ‘The Quiet Family’ and directed by Takashi Miike, the film follows a family running a remote bed-and-breakfast where their guests keep mysteriously dying. The cast includes Kenji Sawada, Keiko Matsuzaka, Shinji Takeda, Naomi Nishida, and Kiyoshiro Imawano.

Synopsis: It wasn’t all that long ago that the Katakuris moved out to the sticks with dreams of running a beautiful bed and breakfast along the highway. Unfortunately for them, that highway never came. With their morale at rock bottom, the eccentric family prays to add just one name to the guestbook! But when customers finally start rolling in, they won’t stop keeling over! And instead of going to the cops, the Katakuris find themselves doing a strange song and dance to keep anyone from finding out!
