Synopsis: Niki, born to a Japanese mother and a British father, dropped out of university to pursue a writing career. She wants to write about the life of her mother, Etsuko, who survived the Nagasaki atomic bombing, moved to England after the war, and lost her eldest daughter, with whom she shared both joys and hardships. At the urging of her younger daughter, Etsuko begins to recount memories she had long kept silent. These memories centre on a summer spent in post-war Nagasaki with a woman named Sachiko and her young daughter. However, Niki gradually notices inconsistencies in the story… [© Far East Films]
