‘Arrogance and Virtue’ (傲慢と善良) is a 2024 Japanese mystery romance directed by Kentaro Hagiwara.
Based on the novel ‘Goman to Zenryo’ by Mizuki Tsujimura, the film revolves around a man who goes in search of his missing girlfriend and uncovers details about her past that he didn’t expect. The cast includes Taisuke Fujigaya, Nao, Yuki Kura, Nanami Sakuraba, and Kenji Anan.
Synopsis: Kakeru Nishizawa (Taisuke Fujigaya) was doing well both at work and in love, but after being dumped by his longtime girlfriend, he started looking for a new partner on a matchmaking app. There he met the modest and considerate Mami Sakaniwa (Nao) and the pair started dating, but even after a year, he couldn’t decide on marriage. However, just after Mami confessed to him that she had a stalker, he received a terrifying phone call saying, “Ka-kun, help me!” Kakeru felt he had to protect her, and they finally got engaged, but Mami suddenly disappeared. While visiting her parents, friends, colleagues and past lovers to find her whereabouts, Kakeru discovered her past and lies he didn’t want to know. [© Far East Films]
