‘Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist’s Journey’ (かくかくしかじか / Kakukaku Shikajika) is a 2025 Japanese drama directed by Kazuaki Seki.
Based on the autobiographical manga by Akiko Higashimura, the film depicts the trajectory of a nine-year relationship between a girl who aspires to be a manga artist and her mentor, her art teacher. The cast includes Mei Nagano, Yo Oizumi, Ai Mikami, Mei Hata, Jin Suzuki, and Fuju Kamio.
Synopsis: Akiko Hayashi (Mei Nagano) is a lazy high school student in Miyazaki who dreams of becoming a popular cartoonist. Her parents recommend that she enrol in a painting class run by Kenzo Hidaka (Yo Oizumi). Kenzo is a strict teacher, and at first, Akiko is frustrated with his harsh methods.
