‘Dongji Rescue’ (东极岛) is a 2025 Chinese historical war drama directed by Guan Hu and Fei Zhenxiang.

Based on a true story, the film revolves around a group of Dongji fishermen who courageously save and shelter British POWs after their ship is torpedoed. The cast includes Zhu Yilong, Leo Wu, Ni Ni, Yang Haoyu, Chen Minghao, and Ni Dahong.

Synopsis: During World War II, near China’s Zhoushan waters, a Japanese cargo ship carrying British prisoners of war was sunk, with thousands of British POWs trapped inside the ship’s hold by Japanese forces. In this desperate moment, a group of fishermen from Dongji Island stepped forward. Driven by their innate compassion, courage, and fierce determination, they braved treacherous waves to carve out a path to survival for the stranded prisoners. [© Far East Films]
