‘Joryu Tohaiden Aki’ (女流闘牌伝 aki -アキ-) is a 2017 Japanese gambling drama directed by Yutaro Nakamura.

Based on the manga ‘Aki’ by Keiji Hanasaki, the story follows a young girl who grows up in a mahjong household and is forced to put her skills to use when she moves out to Tokyo. The cast includes Natsumi Okamoto, Yuka Masuda, Erina Nakayama, Nao Ayaki, and Ryo Iwamatsu.

Synopsis: Aki is a 15-year-old girl and grew up around a mahjong parlor. During the winter, Aki moves out to Tokyo. She experiences difficulties there and decides to survive using her only weapon, which is mahjong. She goes up against bad adults and faces the reality of living in a large city. Around this time, Aki meets fellow female mahjong player Himawari and Takeo Kojima. Since then, she goes through major changes.

‘Joryu Tohaiden Aki’ opens across Japan on June 3, 2017.
