‘Prosperity and Adversity’ (顺流而上) is a 2025 Chinese crime drama directed by Zhang Lichuan.

The film follows an investigator who braves danger and mounting pressure to expose the truth behind a “cancer village” and its toxic water pollution. The cast includes Ma Sichao, Tan Kai, Li Haofei, Zhang Xilin, Zhan Jingyi, and Yang Kaicheng.

Synopsis: In a region of Ancheng dubbed a “cancer village,” investigator Liu Sen dies under mysterious circumstances, prompting his friend Lu Qingyun to take up the probe. As he digs deeper with his partner Zhao Shanhe, braving mounting pressure and constant danger, Lu unexpectedly reunites with his long-lost fiancée, adding emotional turmoil to an already perilous quest. Their investigation gradually exposes the hidden truth behind severe water contamination, revealing the hard-fought struggle to defend public safety.
