‘Renoir’ (ルノワール) is a 2025 Japanese coming-of-age drama written and directed by Chie Hayakawa.
The film follows an 11-year-old girl as she navigates adolescence and family struggles in late-1980s Tokyo. The cast includes Yui Suzuki, Lily Franky, Hikari Ishida, Yuumi Kawai, and Ayumu Nakajima.
Synopsis: In the summer of the 1980s, when Japan was at the peak of its bubble economy, 11-year-old Fuki lives in the suburbs with her parents. With a sensitivity that sometimes confounds adults, she spends a carefree summer vacation, expanding her vivid imagination. The glimpses she catches of the adult world are intertwined with complex circumstances, appearing both absurd and stimulating. However, a significant gap has emerged between her father, who is battling illness, and her mother, who is pressed for time at work, causing Fuki’s daily life to waver inevitably. [© Far East Films]
