‘Seishun Gestalt Houkai’ (青春ゲシュタルト崩壊) is a 2025 Japanese romantic drama directed by Hironori Kujiraoka.
Based on a novel by Tomato Marui, the film revolves around a high school girl who suddenly develops face blindness and struggles to recognise her own face. The cast includes Arata Sato, Miho Watanabe, Momoko Tanabe, Miu Arai, and Kenji Mizuhashi.
Synopsis: One day, Asaha Mamiya (Miho Watanabe) suddenly develops a condition called ‘prosopagnosia’ (face blindness) due to stress, in which she cannot recognise her own face. This symptom, which occurs during adolescence, has been misrepresented in social media as something that happens to people who are ‘playing a role.’ Asaha is afraid that people around her will find out and avoid her, so she doesn’t tell anyone and struggles alone. The only person who notices Asaha’s change is her classmate, Hijiri Asahina (Arata Sato), who tries to look out for her at every opportunity. Gradually, Asaha’s relationship with Hijiri grows.
