‘The Breaking Ice’ (燃冬) is a 2023 Chinese drama written and directed by Anthony Chen.

The film revolves around the blossoming relationship between three young adults in a small town on the northern border of China. The cast includes Zhou Dongyu, Liu Haoran, and Qu Chuxiao.

Synopsis: Yanji is a small town on the northern border of China, and Haofeng (Liu Haoran), who has come from Shanghai to attend a wedding, feels a little lost. By chance, he meets Nana (Zhou Dongyu), a young tour guide who fascinates him. She introduces him to a chef friend, Han Xiao (Qu Chuxiao), and the three of them soon strike up a friendship over one of Xiao’s meals. This warm encounter brings them face to face with their pasts and secrets, and their dormant desires slowly unravel, much like the landscape and snowy forests of Changbai Mountain.
