‘The People Upstairs’ (윗집 사람들) is a 2025 South Korean comedy-drama written and directed by Ha Jung-Woo.
The film follows two neighbouring couples whose attempt at a polite dinner unravels into revealing tensions and exposed boundaries in their relationships. The cast includes Ha Jung-Woo, Kong Hyo-Jin, Kim Dong-Wook, and Lee Ha-Nee.
Synopsis: During what is meant to be a conciliatory dinner to resolve ongoing noise disputes, two neighbouring couples begin the evening with strained politeness and cautious small talk. As wine loosens their conversation, long-suppressed frustrations and uneasy curiosities surface, nudging the group into unexpectedly intimate territory. Awkward revelations and shifting alliances follow, exposing the different ways each pair manages desire, trust, and domestic routine. By the end of the night, the simple gesture of goodwill has forced all four to confront the boundaries they draw with one another—and within their own marriages. [© Far East Films]
