Starts out as a fairly happy-go-lucky comedy but eventually culminates in an all action finale that is surprisingly violent for a film of this ilk.

Another chance to see that consummate genre star, Ti Lung, glide through every scene with a debonair charm that is hard to equal.

Chan tries to introduce the new quick-cut style of action alongside a significant measure of pure entertainment and humour.

The only real entertainment is watching the truly menacing villain over-act and cackle viciously while bearing a passing resemblance to Jimmy Saville.

It’s not that it isn’t enjoyable – there is plenty to savour here – but considering the talent available on both sides of the lens, it is mildly frustrating.

‘Incredible Shaolin Thunderkick’ is ineptitude on an almost apocalyptic level.

In the end, ‘Kung Fu From Beyond The Grave’ is decent entertainment – mainly due to the fights – but lacks the campy charm needed to make it a strong recommendation.

Considering they both draw inspiration from the same source, it’s no surprise that ‘Legend Of A Fighter’ often feels a little too similar to ‘Fist Of Fury’.

‘Legendary Weapons of China’ loses impetus when it concentrates on the distracting sub-plot involving Fu Sheng’s kung-fu charlatan, but it is still a refined entry in the genre.

With a studio-bound feel that ages it beyond its years and an ambling storyline that sees the useful sub-plots cast aside, ‘My Rebellious Son’ rarely shines.

‘Ninja In The Dragon’s Den’ stands out as a fully-accomplished kung-fu comedy with superb fight action.

The real draw, and the skill of Chor Yuen, is to make an ensemble of eccentrics, oddball antagonists and superheroes appealing and a means of covering up the unapologetic holes in the narrative.
