Blu-ray & DVD release: ‘When Marnie Was There’

Shout! Factory are bringing the 2014 Japanese animated psychological drama ‘When Marnie Was There’ (思い出のマーニー) to US Blu-ray and DVD on October 11, 2022.

Co-written and directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, the film revolves around a young girl who strikes up a mysterious new friendship after she is sent to the country for health reasons. The voice cast includes Sara Takatsuki, Kasumi Arimura, Ryoko Moriyama, Hana Sugisaki, Hitomi Kuroki, and Nanako Matsushima.

Synopsis: When shy, artistic Anna travels to the seaside to stay with relatives, she stumbles upon an old mansion surrounded by marshes, and the mysterious young girl, Marnie, who lives there. The two girls instantly form a unique connection and friendship that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality. As the days go by, a nearly magnetic pull draws Anna back to the Marsh House again and again, and she begins to piece together the truth surrounding her strange new friend.
