Trailer: ‘The Lychee Road’

‘The Lychee Road’ (长安的荔枝) is a 2025 Chinese period drama co-written and directed by Dong Chengpeng.

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Ma Boyong, the film revolves around a disgruntled low-ranking official who unexpectedly assumes the position of a “lychee envoy”. The cast includes Dong Chengpeng, Bai Ke, Zhuang Dafei, Terrance Lau, Andy Lau, and Yang Mi.

Synopsis: During the Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty, middle-aged Li Shande (Dong Chengpeng) worked hard and spent a lot of money, but remained an unknown official. One day, someone arranged for him to have a lucrative job as a “lychee envoy”, which involved travelling thousands of miles to deliver lychees. If he succeeded, he would have a life of wealth and glory, but if he failed, his fate was much worse… [© Far East Films]
