‘Kaede’ (楓) is a 2025 Japanese romantic drama directed by Isao Yukisada.

Inspired by the 1998 song of the same name by Spitz, the film follows a grieving woman who mistakes her late partner’s twin for the man she lost, drawing them into a fragile deception that reshapes both their lives. The cast includes Sota Fukushi, Haruka Fukuhara, Hio Miyazawa, Anna Ishii, and Kaito Miyachika.

Synopsis: After Megumi dies in a sudden accident in New Zealand, his twin brother Ryo steps into his life when Megumi’s grieving girlfriend Ako, disoriented by shock, mistakes him for the man she loved. Unable to break her further, Ryo maintains the lie, watched only by a childhood friend who knows the truth while others around them begin sensing subtle inconsistencies. As Ryo navigates the emotional strain of living as his brother, he grows increasingly attached to Ako’s warmth and sincerity, even as she carries a secret of her own that threatens the fragile world they’ve begun to rebuild. ‘Kaede’ opens across Japan on December 19, 2025.
