American actor and martial artist Peter Kwong has passed away at the age of 73. According to his representative, he died peacefully in his sleep on the 27th of May.

Born in Los Angeles, California, in 1952, Kwong trained in Northern Shaolin kung fu and was also known for being a prolific dancer. He began his screen career in the late 1970s working mainly in television, and he appeared in popular shows such as ‘Wonder Woman’, ‘Little House on the Prairie’, ‘The A-Team, and ‘Miami Vice’.

His breakout movie role, and the one for which he is probably best remembered, was in the 1986 fantasy action-comedy ‘Big Trouble in Little China’, directed by John Carpenter. Other notable parts would follow in the likes of ‘The Golden Child’, ‘Gleaming the Cube’, and ‘Angel Town’.

In addition to his acting career, Kwong served on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for two terms as well as The Board of Directors of SAG-AFTRA, chairman of the Committee for Racial Equality of Actors Equity Association, and the Vice-Chairs of the Ethnic Equal Opportunities and the Young Performers Committees of the Screen Actors Guild.
