At the recent 10th Anniversary ‘Code Geass’ event, Sunrise confirmed that the anime would be receiving a new sequel as well as a three-part compilation film series.
Going by the name ‘Code Geass: Fukkatsu no Lelouch’ (‘Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection’), it’s not yet clear what format the sequel will take but we do know that it is set several years after Lelouch’s “Zero Requiem” plan. A promotional video also revealed that the characters of Kallen, Jeremiah, and Suzaku Kururugi will all appear.
The three-part film series will recap all 50 episodes of ‘Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion’ and its follow-up ‘Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2’. The original cast will all be re-recording their lines, and the films will also include newly made scenes. The first movie will open sometime in 2017.
Directed by Goro Taniguchi and written by Ichiro Okouchi, the original ‘Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion’ first aired in 2006. Set in an alternate timeline, the story focuses on how the former prince Lelouch vi Britannia obtains a power known as Geass and decides to use it to obliterate the Holy Britannian Empire, an imperial monarchy and a superpower that has been conquering various countries. The second series, ‘Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2’ premiered in 2008.
