‘Fueled: The Man They Called Pirate’ (海賊とよばれた男) is 2016 live-action adaptation of ‘Kaizoku to Yobareta Otoko’, the best selling Japanese historical novel by Naoki Hyakuta.
Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, the story revolves around the owner of an oil company who attempts to rebuild his business after Japan loses World War II. The cast includes Junichi Okada, Haruka Ayase, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Shota Sometani, Ryohei Suzuki, Toru Nomaguchi, and Pierre Taki.
Synopsis: Set during 1945-47, Tetsuzo Kunioka is an owner of a company that sells oil. Most of his company is either missing, in the army, or otherwise not available. The fate of the company’s network of overseas offices is also unknown. Not fazed by the defeat of Japan, Kunioka is determined that Japan will rise again, and is driven to create a large oil company.
