Universal Pictures is partnering up with Amasia Entertainment for a new movie adaptation of ‘The Green Hornet’. Provisionally titled ‘The Green Hornet and Kato’, the project is still in the very early stages of development so is yet to have any names attached.
Originally created in 1936 by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker for a radio show on WXYZ, ‘The Green Hornet’ follows the adventures of wealthy young newspaper publisher Britt Reid who dons a mask and fedora to fight crime with the help of his trusty aid and confidant Kato.
The concept was first adapted into live-action for two black and white movie serials made in the 1940s. Two decades later, it was turned into a short-lived television series featuring Van Williams as the Green Hornet and introducing Bruce Lee to an American audience as Kato. In 2011, the franchise made its way back to the big screen, courtesy of Sony, with the Michael Gondry-helmed action-comedy starring Seth Rogan and Jay Chou.
