‘Back to the Past’ (尋秦記) is a 2025 Hong Kong historical sci-fi fantasy action film directed by Ng Yuen-Fai and Jack Lai.
A continuation of the 2001 television series ‘A Step into the Past’, the film follows a retired time traveller who must return to a reshaped past to stop a new temporal threat from destroying a unified empire. The cast includes Louis Koo, Jessica Hsuan, Raymond Lam, Sonija Kwok, Joyce Tang, and Michelle Saram.
Synopsis: A former time traveller from the modern world, long retired from shaping history, is forced back into action when a mysterious new arrival threatens to overturn an empire he once helped build. Reunited with the ruler he mentored, he must confront both a history-altering enemy and the unresolved tensions between them, as their bond of loyalty and mistrust may prove either their greatest defence or their ultimate undoing.
