Blu-ray release: ‘The Beauty Of Beauties’

88 Films are bringing the 1965 Taiwanese historical drama ‘The Beauty Of Beauties’ (西施) to UK Blu-ray on March 11, 2024.

Directed by Li Han-Hsiang, the film follows the defeated King of Yue after he returns to his homeland, looking to get his revenge on the King of Wu. The cast includes Chiang Ching, Chao Lei, Chu Mu, Ku Chun, Ma Chi, and Hung Bo.

Synopsis: After the kingdom of Yu is defeated by that of Wu, Goujian the King takes pains to prepare for his revenge and rebuild his country. He knows too well that the King of Wu, Fucha is lewd and lustful, so he offers Xisi to the court of Wu to serve as Fucha’s concubine, with Fucha unaware that she is also a spy. She uses her charm to draw Fucha from his office and governess, leaving the ruling class of Wu rotten. Meanwhile, Goujian secretly summons his friends and equips them with arms. After ten years of of war, can Goujian at last take his revenge and reclaim his lands?
