‘Cala, My Dog!’ is, as so many modern Chinese films are, a way of observing a misunderstood country on a detailed level.

It is a brilliantly constructed spoof of the martial arts genre that includes all of the elements that made Chow such a success.

Entertaining in parts with a game cast on good form but frustratingly uneven and unsatisfying a film as a whole, ‘Let the Bullets Fly’ lays on the political subtext but forgets to have fun with it.

Action fans in particular will find much to appreciate here, especially the chance to see the Drunken style so excellently represented on screen.

‘Wait ‘Til You’re Older’ is commercial film-making at its most polished, yet contains a few brave decisions by director Teddy Chen.
