Blu-ray release: ‘Of Flesh and Blood: The Cinema of Hirokazu Koreeda’
By Phil Mills | Nov 7, 2024
BFI are bringing four career-defining titles by Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda to UK Blu-ray on November 25, 2024.
In ‘Maborosi’ (幻の光), a young woman’s husband apparently commits suicide without warning or reason, leaving behind his wife and infant. ‘After Life’ (ワンダフルライフ) follows a group of counsellors who interview the recently deceased, record their personal details, and then, over a week, assist them in choosing a single memory to keep for eternity. ‘Nobody Knows’ (誰も知らない) sees a twelve-year-old forced to care for his younger siblings after their mother leaves them and shows no sign of returning. Finally, ‘Still Walking’ (歩いても 歩いても) revolves around a family that gathers together for a commemorative ritual whose nature only gradually becomes clear.
