Korean actress Moon Geun-Young developed sudden pain in her right arm on the 1st February and presented to the hospital, where she was diagnosed to have acute compartment syndrome. She has received emergency surgery and will need one or two additional operations in the near future.

Acute compartment syndrome is a condition where swelling or bleeding in a body compartment (like the arms) causes increased pressure that can lead to muscle and nerve damage.

Those of you who have been keeping an eye on Korean cinema since its renaissance in 1999 will remember that this actress starred in a string of hit films, which included ‘A Tale Of Two Sisters’ (2003), ‘My Little Bride’ (2004) and ‘Innocent Steps’ (2005). She most recently starred in 2015’s ‘The Throne’ and is currently playing Juliet in the stage show ‘Romeo And Juliet’. Because of her illness, all her work commitments have been cancelled.

We wish Geun-Young a full and speedy recovery.
